Welcome to the GW Instek website at www.gwinstek.com (the “Website”). This Privacy, Security and Cookies Policy explains how Good Will Instrument Co., Ltd., operating under the GW Instek brand (“GW Instek”, “we”, “us” or “our”), collects, uses, discloses, retains and protects personal data through the Website.

This Policy applies to Website visitors, account users, people who submit enquiries or request services, and people who interact with us at trade shows, events or through social media. A local GW Instek company or authorised partner may provide an additional notice when it collects personal data for its own purposes.

2. Personal data we collect and how we collect it

Depending on how you use the Website, we may collect:

  • Account and contact data: name, email address, mailing address, telephone and fax number, country, account settings, authentication credentials and communication preferences.
  • Enquiry and service data: the contents of enquiries, requested products or services, product interests, support communications and information you choose to provide.
  • Event and partner data: business contact details and product interests received from trade show organisers, event sponsors, authorised distributors or other partners that are permitted to provide the data to us.
  • Technical and usage data: IP address, device and browser type, operating system, language, referring and exit pages, timestamps, visited URLs, clicks, session information, security logs and similar online identifiers.
  • Cookie and preference data: consent choices, Cookie identifiers, browsing activity and analytics or advertising data when the relevant optional category is enabled.

We collect data directly from you, automatically from your device, from GW Instek companies, and from partners or public sources where permitted by law. If requested information is required, the collection form will identify it. If you do not provide required information, we may be unable to create an account, answer a request or provide the requested service.

We process personal data for the following purposes and, where applicable, on the following legal bases:

  • To operate the Website, create and administer accounts, remember settings and provide requested content or services: performance of a contract, steps requested before a contract, or our legitimate interests in providing the Website.
  • To respond to enquiries, provide technical or sales support and manage our relationship with you: contract, pre-contractual steps or legitimate interests in responding to business requests.
  • To secure the Website, prevent fraud, troubleshoot problems and maintain logs: legal obligations and our legitimate interests in protecting users, systems and services.

4. Sharing and recipients

We do not rent personal data. We disclose personal data only as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Policy, including to:

  • GW Instek companies and personnel that need the data for the relevant business purpose;
  • website hosting, IT, security, customer relationship, email delivery, analytics, advertising and other service providers acting under appropriate instructions;
  • authorised distributors, sales, rental, service and solution partners when needed to respond to your location or request;
  • professional advisers, auditors and insurers;
  • courts, regulators, law-enforcement bodies or other authorities when disclosure is required by law or valid legal process; and
  • a buyer, successor or adviser in connection with a proposed or completed merger, acquisition, financing, reorganisation or transfer of business assets.

Optional analytics, advertising and social-media providers are identified through the Website’s consent tool where available. Those providers may act as processors or independent controllers under their own privacy notices.

5. International transfers

GW Instek operates internationally. Personal data may be processed in Taiwan and in other countries where GW Instek companies, authorised partners or service providers operate. Privacy laws in those countries may differ from the law where you live.

Where applicable law requires safeguards for an international transfer, we use an available lawful transfer mechanism and appropriate contractual, technical and organisational measures. You may contact us for information about the safeguards applicable to your data, subject to lawful confidentiality limitations.

6. Retention

We retain personal data only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, including to provide an account or service, maintain security, comply with legal and accounting requirements, resolve disputes and enforce agreements. We determine the period using the nature and sensitivity of the data, the business purpose, legal limitation periods, security needs and applicable retention duties.

  • Account data is generally retained while the account is active and for a limited period afterwards for security, dispute and legal-compliance purposes.
  • Enquiry and support records are retained for the period needed to respond and for reasonable follow-up, warranty, dispute and legal-compliance periods.
  • Direct-marketing data is retained until you opt out or the information is no longer needed, subject to a limited suppression record used to honour your opt-out.
  • Security and server logs are retained according to our security and operational schedule.

When retention is no longer required, we delete or anonymise the data, or securely isolate it until deletion is possible in backup systems.

Rights are subject to legal conditions and exceptions. We will not discriminate against you for exercising a right granted by applicable law.

9. Children

The Website is intended for business and professional audiences and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children through the Website. If you believe a child has provided personal data to us, please contact us so that we can review and, where appropriate, delete it.

10. Third-party websites and social media

The Website may contain links, features or embedded content supplied by third parties. Their processing is governed by their own privacy notices. Review those notices before providing personal data. A link does not mean that GW Instek controls the third party’s privacy practices.

11. Cookies and similar technologies

11.1 What these technologies are

Cookies and similar technologies, including local storage, pixels, tags and scripts, can store or access information on a device. They may process online identifiers and other information that constitutes personal data under applicable law.

11.2 How we use them

We use technologies that are strictly necessary to provide and secure the Website. We may also use optional functional, analytics and advertising technologies. Where consent is required, optional technologies remain disabled until you make a choice through our consent tool. You may accept, reject or customise optional categories, and may withdraw or change your choice at any time through the “Renew or change your cookie consent” control in the Website footer.

The consent tool or Cookie list describes the provider, purpose, category and duration of each technology. Disabling strictly necessary technologies may prevent a feature you request from operating.

11.3 Browser controls

Deleting browser Cookies does not delete account, enquiry, transaction or server records retained for the purposes and periods described in this Policy. Browser controls supplement the Website consent tool and may affect other websites.

13. India supplemental notice

For people in India, Good Will Instrument Co., Ltd. acts as the Data Fiduciary for personal data collected through the Website unless another entity is identified at the point of collection. This Policy describes the personal data and specified purposes for which it is processed.

You may withdraw consent, request access to information about your personal data, request correction, completion, updating or erasure, nominate another individual where permitted, and submit a grievance, subject to the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and rules in force at the relevant time. Use marketing@goodwill.com.tw for consent withdrawal, rights requests and grievances. We will respond within the period required by applicable law.

The Act and Digital Personal Data Protection Rules, 2025 are being brought into force in phases. We will update this notice and our procedures as the applicable provisions commence.
