Taipei, 28 October 2025 — Taiwanese test-and-measurement maker GW Instek has been named a winner of the 2025 Digital Transformation Model Award by the Taiwan Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers’ Association (TEEMA), after deploying an “agentic AI” assistant on a high-mix, frequently changeover production line.

The system—developed with Taiwan’s Institute for Information Industry under the Ministry of Economic Affairs’ Industrial Development Administration programme—targets the most stubborn pain points of DIP (manual through-hole) assembly: small batches, frequent line swaps and complex workflows. GW Instek says the tool has shifted quality control from after-the-fact inspection to real-time collaboration, cutting the plug-in defect rework rate by 50% and trimming repair hours, scrap and after-sales returns.
According to the company, the DIP Line AI Agent Quality Collaboration System combines small language models, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) and edge deployment. It spans smart workstations and inspection posts, a live monitoring hub and a “smart line consultant”, delivering on-the-spot work guidance, visual performance feedback and interactive look-ups for operators.
“We positioned AI as an assistant, not a replacement,” said Sara Lin, Deputy General Manager and convener of GW Instek’s Sustainability Committee. “Human-machine collaboration improved work quality and efficiency while shortening the learning curve for new staff.”
Founded more than 50 years ago, GW Instek sells oscilloscopes, DC electronic loads, power supplies and other instruments—over 500 SKUs—to 80-plus countries. The firm’s in-house PCB catalogue runs to the thousands, a breadth that has long challenged line flexibility and quality consistency. The award recognises the company’s attempt to reconcile both.
Notes:
– Award: TEEMA “Digital Transformation Model Award”, 2025.
– Project: Agentic AI for collaboration on high-variation production lines at GW Instek’s Tucheng DIP assembly.
– Reported outcomes: ~50% reduction in DIP rework defect rate; reduced rework and manpower; lower after-sales failure rate; brand positioning around high-reliability instruments strengthened.
