13 October 2025, Taipei — GW Instek, a global leader in electronic measurement and testing instruments, marked its 50th anniversary with a significant act of educational philanthropy. On 9 October, the company held a donation and inauguration ceremony in collaboration with the National Taipei University of Technology (NTUT), presenting state-of-the-art laboratory equipment valued at more than NT$16 million. The donation includes power electronics training systems, power supplies, DC electronic loads, and various inverters, all of which will substantially strengthen NTUT’s teaching, research, and innovation capacity in the fields of green energy, AI-powered power systems, and advanced power electronics.
For GW Instek’s Chairman Mr. C. C. Lin (林錦章), the occasion was deeply personal. An alumnus of NTUT’s predecessor, Taipei Institute of Technology, he founded GW Instek in 1975 and has since pioneered Taiwan’s first domestically produced electronic test instruments. Today, GW Instek exports to more than 80 countries worldwide, with subsidiaries in the United States, Europe, Japan, Korea, and India. Reflecting on this milestone, Mr Lin remarked: “Through this donation, we hope to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry practice, foster deeper research capabilities, and enhance collaboration between academia and enterprise. I encourage NTUT students to be bold, to innovate, and to carry the spirit of NTUT onto the global stage.”
NTUT President Prof. Hsi-Fu Wang (王錫福) hailed the donation as a powerful symbol of industry’s role in supporting education. He stated: “GW Instek has long been internationally recognised in the fields of measurement and power technology. This generous contribution demonstrates the company’s commitment to education and its enduring ties to its alma mater. These resources will accelerate Taiwan’s progress in power electronics and sustainability, helping NTUT train the engineers and researchers who will underpin the future of the global energy transition.”
Professor Yen-Sheng Lai (賴炎生) of NTUT’s Department of Electrical Engineering further emphasised that the donated equipment would be directly integrated into courses such as Power Electronics, Digital Power and Circuit Design, and Advanced Power Conversion Systems. This, he explained, would allow students to connect theoretical knowledge with practical application, while advancing frontier research in high-efficiency converters, microgrid technologies, and AI-driven power architectures.
As GW Instek celebrates five decades of innovation under the guiding principles of integrity, quality, and innovation, the company continues to affirm its commitment to corporate social responsibility. By empowering the next generation of engineers and researchers, this collaboration underscores GW Instek’s vision: to invest not only in technology, but also in the people who will shape a sustainable future.
