Measurement Applications of the DAQ-9600

Creating a Dedicated Multi-Point Current Measurement Module

The DAQ-9600 data acquisition system offers seven modules for implementing multi-channel measurement.

Among them, the DAQ-901 and DAQ-909 modules each provide two channels capable of directly measuring current.

When multiple current measurement points are required, a common approach is to connect a shunt in series and measure the voltage across them (converting current to voltage).

However, measurement discrepancies often occur due to variations in the tightness of the connections between the shunt and the measurement channels. The DAQ-909 (8-channel high-voltage + 2-channel high-current multiplexer) includes designated solder pads on the module for mounting shunt resistors.

By soldering the shunts directly onto the pads, measurement errors caused by loose screw connections can be eliminated. As a result, this module effectively becomes a dedicated current measurement module.

Note: Recommended shunt values

1 Ω : For milliampere (mA) current measurements

0.1 Ω: For ampere (A) current measurements (up to 2 A)

When using the DAQ-Data Logger software, set the function to DCV, and use the MX+B conversion feature to convert the measured voltage into current (A).
